I’ve played around with “A” of GAIN’s dress for quite some time (also look here). It didn’t work as a shorter dress, so I used my pattern (gift through House Party). I finally finished the skirt, using Simplicity 2286.
This was a very fast pattern to sew up, and that includes sewing the lining that I made (not included in the pattern). The directions were easy to understand, and once you have all of your supplies, this would be a one or two hour project for experienced stitchers and an entire afternoon for a new stitcher.
I modified, of course. No pockets, no extra trimmings. When we looked at skirts that other girls are wearing, this style definitely is current, but personal taste (which is why we like sewing in the first place) has to dictate decisions.
