A little over a year ago, we decided to follow an interior designer’s plan for our space. We knocked down walls and tore out carpet, then installed a new bamboo floor, got new crown molding in the living room, and painted everything. We most recently spent over a month looking for drapes. I had no idea that we had such a big selection available in the metro! Advice if you, too, need new drapes: Take paint samples with you.
I had the children’s artwork framed over the summer, only to disagree with Mr. TellBlast on how to hang them. But when I came home Sunday night, they looked perfect! See how well things have come together:
Three of the kids painted a watercolor in the style of Georgia O’Keefe. The artwork of our fourth child is nearby, hanging in triptych style.
I threw on some feathered tassels to tie back the panels. I am not in love with the idea of tie backs — I think they remove some drama. I just bought drapery weights today. Once I get them in place, I hope they elevate the drama of the room. Here are the matching drapes in the living room:
We still haven’t put the couch back against the window. But it looks good no matter where you put it.
Our dining room window is very wide, so we used a black iron plumbing pipe for a curtain rod. It works fantastically, doesn’t look like it came out of the plumbing aisle, doesn’t sag in the center (and eliminated the need for the third rod bracket, which is infinitely difficult to place correctly), and cost less than $20! We thought we would be bothered without finials on the pipe, but now that it’s up, we think the room looks fine without.
