Elderberry flowers

Elderberry, Sambucus canadensis

Buds are pale green to white with full bloom occurring in late June and early July, and fruiting in August. If you missed identifying it early in the year, you can find it in early fall by its dark fruit that hangs from purple stems. It can get over 6′ tall.

The O’Neal study found a trace amount of elderberry pollen in hives.
