Fruit trees

Iowa has many native and introduced fruit trees that give early pollen and nectar – plum, cherry and chokecherry, apple.

I’ve noticed that many of the flowers have five petals and the bark has horizontal stripes (lenticels). I can usually go for a walk in the woods and find a fruit tree by the fragrance it emits.
