Wingstem, Verbesina spp.
Wingstem is tall and has alternate lance-like leaves. The stem, not pictured here yet, has ‘wings’ running vertically along its height. It’s a pretty tall, stiff plant.
Called “golden honey plant” in some parts of the country, this forb is found in groups. Yellow flowers can be difficult to distinguish at first because there are so many of them. Wingstem’s color is not as pale as evening primrose nor as dark and orange as sunflowers. The centers are also a dome of tubes.
